SMSF advice from an accredited specialist — not a generalist.

Running a self managed super fund puts the responsibility — and the risk — squarely on you as trustee. Troy Gudgeon holds the SMSF Specialist Advisor™ (SSA™) designation and advises trustees on strategy, compliance, and pension structuring under his own AFSL. No bank ties, no product quotas, and no obligation.

The Challenge

An SMSF gives you control. It also gives you every obligation that comes with it.

"Is my SMSF compliant?"

Trustees carry personal responsibility for meeting SIS Act obligations. Breaches can mean penalties, fund non-compliance, and losing the tax concessions that justify the fund in the first place.

"Am I missing tax strategies?"

Contribution sequencing, pension commencement timing, and structuring decisions can be worth real money over the life of a fund. Most trustees only discover what they missed after the window closes.

"Is my investment strategy documented?"

Every SMSF must have a documented investment strategy that's reviewed regularly and actually followed. Auditors check. A template downloaded years ago rarely stands up.

What You Get

Specialist SMSF advice across the whole life of your fund.

From establishment to wind-up, every recommendation is personalised, modelled to your fund's numbers, and delivered under a fiduciary obligation to act in your best interests.

SMSF Establishment & Governance

First, whether an SMSF is right for you at all. Then trust deed, trustee structure, and registrations done properly — so the fund starts life compliant and stays that way.

Investment Strategy Documentation

A genuine, SIS Act-compliant investment strategy tailored to your fund's members and reviewed as circumstances change — not a generic template that won't survive an audit.

Pension Phase Structuring

Transition-to-retirement and account-based pensions, commencement timing, and transfer balance cap management — structured for tax effectiveness across the fund.

Contribution Strategies

Concessional and non-concessional sequencing, catch-up contributions, and spouse strategies — squeezing every dollar from the concessions available to your fund.

SMSF Audit Coordination

We work alongside your accountant and independent auditor so the annual compliance cycle runs smoothly and nothing falls through the cracks.

Exit & Wind-Up Planning

When an SMSF stops making sense — age, health, balance, or simplicity — a planned wind-up protects member benefits and avoids unnecessary tax.

  • Is the Discovery Call really free?
Yes, completely. The initial 30-minute call is at our cost. It's an honest conversation about your situation — no pressure, no sales pitch, and no obligation to proceed.
  • What is the SSA™ designation?
The SMSF Specialist Advisor™ designation is awarded by the SMSF Association to advisers who pass a rigorous specialist examination and maintain ongoing SMSF-specific education. It's the industry's benchmark credential for self managed super fund advice — held by a small fraction of Australian advisers.
  • Is an SMSF right for me?
Not always — and we'll tell you honestly if it isn't. An SMSF suits people who want genuine control over their retirement savings and have the balance, time, and engagement to justify the costs and trustee responsibilities. The Discovery Call is the right place to test the question against your circumstances.
  • Can you help with an existing SMSF?
Yes. Much of our SMSF work is with established funds — reviewing the investment strategy, restructuring for pension phase, fixing compliance gaps, or providing the specialist strategic oversight your accountant isn't licensed to give.
  • How much does SMSF advice cost?
Our fees are transparent and fee-for-service. Initial advice starts from $1,650 for simple situations to $5,500 for complex cases. Ongoing service fees range from 0.55%–1.01% p.a. depending on portfolio size. Fees can generally be paid from your fund — we'll explain everything upfront.
  • What are my compliance obligations as trustee?
SMSF trustees must maintain a documented investment strategy, keep fund assets separate from personal assets, meet contribution and pension standards, lodge annual returns, and have the fund independently audited each year. We help you stay ahead of those obligations rather than discover problems at audit time.
